Chenzhu APL Intrinsic Safety & Lightning Protection Integrated Solution: Building the Industrial Communication Foundation for Hazardous Areas.
August 18, 2026 — The Safety Technology Seminar on Fully Networked Industrial Measurement and Control Systems — Intrinsic Safety · Lightning Protection · Engineering Design was held in Shanghai. Hosted by Shanghai Chenzhu Instrument Co., Ltd. and organized by the China Instrument Manufacturers Association (Fully Networked Industrial Measurement and Control Systems Committee), with support from SITIIAS, the event brought together nearly 60 experts from over 50 organizations including SITIIAS, HQC, Huawei, Congesys, and others.
Chenzhu’s Lightning Protection Product Director, Chen Keqi, presented a technical report on practical lightning protection strategies for automation systems.
Three APL engineering demos were demonstrated onsite:
Demo A: NIICA over APL — Intrinsic Safety & Lightning Protection Integrated Solution
A standardized 48spur increased safety enclosure with dual stacked APL field switches, providing 48 standard APL communication interfaces.
Power redundancy: Dual 24V redundant power supplies ensure continuous operation during singlesource failure.
Communication redundancy: Dual fiber and dual copper bidirectional link redundancy enable seamless automatic failover, eliminating the traditional fieldbus pain points of link drops, jitter, and disconnections.
Left link: Standard APL cable connected to a Loddenson NIICA smart temperature transmitter with dedicated surge protective devices, achieving stable communication over 200 meters.
Right link: 24 NIICA highprecision temperature simulators, each with a builtin 100Ω precision resistor, continuously outputting standardized sensor data.
Demo B: Profinet over APL — LongDistance Stable Transmission
In longdistance transmission scenarios, the Chenzhu APL solution demonstrated strong antiinterference capability and stable communication performance, with an SNR of 38 dB.
Demo C: MultiType APL Instruments × Congesys DCS — Openness and Compatibility
The demonstration established an endtoend business link integrating intelligent pressure transmitters, multiparameter temperature instruments, smart valve positioners, and intelligent flow meters — all with different protocols — into the Congesys DCS.
Full chain coverage: APL field instruments → APL switch → DCS control system.
Compatible with NIICA, Profinet, and HARTIP.
Supports general I/O solutions and 485bustoAPL migration paths.
